Listening to patients

The company is actively participating in efforts under the leadership of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) to study public perceptions of product safety and public views of issues the industry should address. We are reaching out to patients and other stakeholders to improve our understanding of public concerns and to address them.

Novartis also is taking a leadership role with the European Union's Innovative Medicines Initiative, an effort by regulatory authorities to work with industry on advanced techniques for targeting the right drugs to the right patients. The effort draws upon technologies such as pharmacogenomics, biomarkers and other approaches and is meant to minimize safety risks while also potentially accelerating the approval of needed medicines. This European initiative parallels similar efforts at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) through its Critical Path Initiative.
