Third party management
Novartis is a global company with operations in over 140 countries. In the course of day-to-day business transactions, we deal with a large network of suppliers and other third parties, whose contributions form a vital part of our success.
In recent years, managing the supply chain to improve social, environmental and human rights performance has become a priority for leading companies. The manner in which we purchase supplies and contract out operations not only influences our cost and pricing structures, but also affects our reputation as a responsible corporate citizen. Third party management is therefore a key element of our commitment to corporate citizenship.
Novartis gives priority to business partners, suppliers and contractors who share our societal and environmental values and we support their efforts to promote these values through their business activities. We recognize that our partners operate in different legal, economic and cultural environments throughout the world. Nevertheless, we expect them to meet certain minimum requirements in doing business with Novartis. These requirements are defined in our Third Party Code of Conduct and our Corporate Citizenship Guideline on Third Party Management, which sets out the criteria we take into account in selecting suppliers and service providers.
Novartis also supports the Pharmaceutical Industry Principles for Responsible Supply Chain Management set by the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative, and is committed to reflecting these in its business principles and practices.
Raising ethical business standards throughout our sphere of influence is a core aim of the UN Global Compact and Novartis supports this aspiration.
