Integrity and compliance
At Novartis we believe that doing the right thing makes good business sense. We consider that ethical conduct is best assured by promoting a culture of integrity, supported by a sound management framework and assurance processes.
The Executive Committee of Novartis is responsible for establishing values and ethical standards, setting the strategic direction for the Integrity & Compliance program and ensuring that adequate resources are made available for its implementation. The Integrity & Compliance function is responsible for developing and maintaining an effective program which supports management in establishing, promoting and enforcing integrity and responsible decision-making.
Organization and structure
At Novartis, responsibility for maintaining and improving integrity and compliance is embedded in management processes, which includes the annual performance reviews of associates. Management is supported by a global organization of 205 full- or part-time Integrity & Compliance Officers in 98 country organizations. This structure ensures a global perspective while still taking advantage of local expertise on integrity and compliance issues.
A global Integrity & Compliance Committee oversees the program and defines its key performance indicators. Overall implementation and effectiveness of the program is monitored and controlled by the Novartis Board of Directors.
