Pharmaceutical research within Novartis is conducted primarily through the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR). Headquartered in Cambridge, US, and with locations worldwide, Novartis Institutes is redefining drug discovery in the post-genomic era. Our goal is to produce more relevant, predictable drug discovery and new and better medicines for patients. Mark Fishman, M.D.  is the President of the Novartis Institutes.

Our headquarters' location in Cambridge - a worldwide biotechnology hub - puts us close to multiple renowned academic institutions and in the midst of an impressive pool of scientific talent. Our new Cambridge facility currently encompasses 255,000 square feet of laboratory and office space, housing over 400 scientists and technology experts (to be expand to approximately 1,000 employees soon). The Cambridge headquarters will continue to grow, with a $4 billion investment planned over the next 10 years.
